BELGIAN BEER
Beer has been made in Belgium since at least the Middle Ages. It is believed today that beer was brewed at some monasteries during this period; however, no written proof exists. Beer in Belgium varies from the popular pale lager to lambic beer and Flemish red. Belgian beer-brewing's origins go back to the Middle Ages. There are approximately 125 breweries in the country, ranging from international giants to microbreweries. In Europe, only Germany, France and the United Kingdom are home to more breweries.Belgian breweries produce about 800 standard beers.

LAGERS
Pale lagers and pilsners are by far the most widely consumed beers in the world. Lager is a German word that can be loosely translated as a bed or camp: lagering means laying a beer down to rest in cold storage from one week to nine months. Stylistically speaking, in the most general terms, lagers tend to be lighter and less assertive than there spicier, full-bodied cousins, ales.
The world’s first clear golden beer was created in 1842 at a brewery in Pilsen, Czech Republic, called Pilsner Urquell. This beer then became the benchmark that all lagers or pilsners strive to be like.

ALES
Generic terms for English style top fermented beers. Usually copper coloured but can be darker. Ales are produced in a wide variety of colours, palates and strengths. Some ale categories are Bitter, Brown Ale, India Pale Ale, Old Ale, and Scotch Ale. A great Ale from England- Fullers London Pride.

STOUTS
Dry stout is closely associated with Ireland in general and Guinness in particular. These brews tend to be rich and dark with a definitive bitter note and a drying palate feel. Draft Irish stout is nitrogen flushed to give it that telltale white creamy head. This process is also affected in cans and bottles with the nitrogen “widget”.
Flavoured stouts are stouts, be they sweeter or drier, which have been flavoured in some way. Dark fruits, coffee and chocolate are particularly popular. A flavoured stout, which is a must try, is Dragon Stout from Jamaica.

WHEAT BEERS
Weizenbier, or wheat beer originates from southern Germany – particularly Bavaria – and is a natural antidote for a hot summer day. It is brewed with at least 50% wheat in the mash and does not undergo extensive lagering or maturation. The word “HEFE” (German for yeast) on the label denotes that the bottle contains yeast sediment. This imparts a cloudy appearance in the beer which is normal and natural, and known as the protein haze.
For a tasty classic version of the wheat beer style, you have to have a Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse.

CIDERS
Cider is a fermented beverage made from apple juice. Cider varies in alcohol content from 2% ABV to 8.5% ABV or more in traditional English ciders. Although cider can be made from any variety of apple, certain cultivars are known as cider apples. Cider is popular in the United Kingdom, especially in South West England. The beverage is also popular and traditional in Ireland; in Brittany (chistr) and Normandy (cidre) in France; Principality of Asturias (sidra), the Basque country (sagardoa) and Galicia (sidra) in Spain ; in Rheinland-Pfalz, Hessen (Frankfurt am Main) and other regions of Germany (Most, Viez or Apfelwein). Argentina is a cider-producing and drinking country, especially the provinces of Río Negro and Mendoza. Australia produces cider, too, particularly on the island of Tasmania which has a strong apple-growing tradition.
